In this section we'll look at several of the tools and features commonly used for effective predesign.
Tools in Katapult Pro are located on the right side of the screen and are organized into toolsets. Tool actions and icons, along with preset attributes can all be configured in the model editor and could therefore be different depending on the model you are using. The following are the default tools and how the work without any additional setup.
The aerial design tool is used to draw pole locations on the map to be collected and designed. Poles placed using this tool signify locations where field collection teams will work and office design staff will complete their designs (i.e. the proposed attacher's route in a joint use project).
To access the aerial design tool, click the Tools menu in the top right corner of the interface and ensure you are in the Aerial Design toolset. Note that different models may organize tools into different toolsets. Once in the correct toolset, locate and select the "Aerial" drawing pencil, which appears as a green pencil by default.
To place a pole, position the dropper on the desired pole location on the map and click to place it. Use the aerial imagery and street view to help accurately identify and place poles on the map. After placing the first pole, pan the map view to the next pole location and click to place the adjacent pole. Katapult Pro will add the new pole along with a "Aerial Cable" connection line between both poles. Continue this process to design and connect each pole as part of your job scope.
While using the drawing tool, you can enter bearings and span lengths in the window at the bottom of the page if this information is available to you during the predesign phase, but this is not necessarily required.
You can exit the aerial drawing tool at any time by pressing Escape (Esc) on your keyboard, clicking the X within the window at the bottom of the screen, or right-clicking with your mouse.
